5 books of the Russian children's publishing house "Archipelag" entered the short list of the competition for the prize named after Korney Chukovsky.
The Korney Chukovsky Prize is a prestigious literary competition established by the Moscow government in 2020. It includes books by contemporary Russian children's writers, poets and translators. The works are evaluated by a competent jury consisting of writers, educators, psychologists, translators and editors.
This year, the competition received 608 applications, of which only 48 books were shortlisted.
In the nomination "The best work in prose for children under 7 years" among the winners was the novel by the writer Maya Bessonova “The Little Blue Dress”. It's a book about the importance of being careful about things and people. The main character of the book - the girl Rosa - very much loves her new dress and treats it carefully, and it in return helps her to avoid unpleasant situations and better understand the kids in kindergarten.
In the nomination "Best poetry collection for children under 7 years" the finalists were 4 cardboard books of the publishing house for the youngest. The series “Wonders for your Child” is a fun poem with fascinating stories and simple vocabulary, which will be suitable for mastering the native language. The “I Know Everything” series is an encyclopedia for kids, dedicated to the products and plants that surround the child in everyday life: trees, fruits, nuts, etc. Poems from the books of this series develop children's speech and are ideal for reading with parents, as well as first attempts at self-reading.
“Vorkot the Cat and the Cloud” is a poem, written in the traditional Russian genre, which will cheer up the child and introduce the village animals. The author is a children's poet and writer Irina Druzhaeva, a repeated winner of all-Russian literary competitions and prizes.
“The Tigerfly and the Tigercat” is a funny and fascinating fairy tale by Mikhail Lukashevich, for whom it is the second time to be awarded the top Chukovsky prize (in 2021 his collection of poems “The Weird Bird” was also shortlisted for the prize). A rhythmic and dynamic poem about a no-joke battle unfolding in an ordinary kitchen keeps the reader in suspense from the first line to the last and uplifts the mood.
“The Snowball” is a winter poem about the adventures of friends who decided to roll a snowball. While the characters were obsessed with the process, one of them went missing. In the process of reading, the kids have to find it, experience a little and laugh from the heart. The author Igor Shevchuk is one of the most famous contemporary children's poets in Russia, co-author of the beloved cartoon series "Smeshariki", repeatedly awarded by leading literary competitions and awards.
“Berries” – a collection of poems about the most popular berries. The book will introduce the child to the berries and their distinctive features. The poems are easy to read and quickly memorized. The author Irina Ivannikova is a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture of Russia. Her other collections of poetry were included in the list of "Best Books of the Year", as well as the shortlist of the S. Marshak Literary Prize.
The long list of K. Chukovsky Prize includes two more books by the publishing house “Archipelag”: a collection of short stories by the writer Victoria Toponogova “Kurlik, Purrlik and the Artist's Cave” and a book-guided tour by Yulia Kuznetsova “Kolya in the in the Tretyakov Gallery”, which the publishing house will also present at the Shanghai Book Fair this year.
