Our story began in 2004, when a young translator-slashfantasy-nerd named Gray Tan (hint: he is the translator of A GAME OF THRONES) was introduced to the literary agent business. Gray immediately fell in love with advocating for authors and bringing great stories across cultures. Four years later, he struck out on his own and opened The Grayhawk Agency (GHA).
Today we are a team of 25 people, representing over 200 international publishers and agencies in Taiwan, China, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Some of our bestsellers are Khaled Hosseini’s THE KITE RUNNER, Gabrielle Zevin’s THE STORIED LIFE OF AJ FIKRY, Rachel Joyce’s THE UNLIKELY PILGRIMAGE OF HAROLD FRY, and Yuval Harari’s
SAPIENS.
In addition to the co-agent business, we are proud to represent a carefully curated list of Asian writers in foreign and film/tv markets. GHA authors have been translated into over thirty languages and nominated for major
awards, including the National Book Award and International Booker Prize, with many titles in development for film and TV series.
We organize government-sponsored programs such as Taipei Rights Workshop (TRW) and Books from Taiwan (BFT). TRW has hosted over 100 international editors, agents, and scouts since 2013. In 2022, GHA was
shortlisted for the LBF International Excellence Award for Rights Professional Award.
