Cao Wenxuan is the only Chinese author to have won the Hans Christian Andersen Award (2016).He has also won numerous national-level prizes in China.He is the author of many bestselling novels. In China, GrassHut has been reprinted over 300 times and has sold over 10 million copies. Cao Wenxuan is wellknown for his focus on “pure literature” (in contrast to commercial books). His works often include characters with disabilities, or characters that are socially ostracised. The climax of his shorter stories often comes when the young person who is ostracised cannot stand it any longer, and takes direct action. This encourages those around him/her to question their behaviour .
