When Camille, a specialist in maritime archaeology, is approached by the Atlas Historical Society to help search for the lost city of Atlantis, she jumps at the chance. Though she is not convinced the mythical civili- zation ever truly existed, she agrees to do the work, hoping to help advance science. After all, who knows? She might be instrumental in unearthing an important discovery.
Camille heads off to the island of Terceira, along with her sister and her brother. Right away, she be- gins to doubt the true intentions of their hosts. Her suspicions are heightened once she notices that they all appear to worship a certain Meister.
Soon, the noose tightens around the three teenagers: the Atlas Historical Society is actually a cult that uses made-up scientific goals to prop up its true intentions, and its members are determined not to let them leave until the mission is accomplished.
Now more than ever, indoctrination is a topic on everyone’s mind, including the author who chose to explore this complex theme with a novel for younger audiences.
With her 4th title in the ‘‘Atout’’ collection, the author shows once again that any subject is a good subject for a YA novel when it is presented skillfully.
